If you are looking for something in the lower price end of things I really think you can’t go too far wrong with what Chile produces. I am not fussy about their whites but for red wine this is a good bet. Dollar for dollar I think they will give you the best taste for your buck in the $13.00 to $18.00 price range.
When it comes to the question of which brand to buy there are several good ones but I suggest you try PKNT. They have a range of quite drinkable reds.
Merlot
This one is smooth, easy drinking and has plum and berry fruit flavours. It is ideal with Cheese, red meat or chicken
Cabernet Sauvignon
A more full bodied red ideal with a steak of a robust tomato pasta. It carries the taste of cassis and black currant
Carmenere
A dark red wine made with a uniquely Chilean grape has hints of spice is great with red meats and meats with a heavier spice to them
Pinot Noir
A lighter fruitier red than some of the others it is ideal on its own or with lightly seasoned meat or salads
